and lovely part of the Japanese experience. Clean, orderly, comfortable, and scenic, they’re the best way to get around the country (and how the locals do it!).
Each passenger may bring up to two pieces of luggage onto trains, not including smaller bags. Each piece of luggage may not weigh more than 66lb (30kg), and its three dimensions (length, width and depth) may not add up to more than 98in(250cm), while its length may not exceed 78in (200cm).
That said, we highly recommend traveling with carry-on-sized luggage for this trip. Why? Travelers will be responsible for moving their own luggage through the train stations and may have to carry luggage up and down flights of stairs. We highly recommend luggage on wheels, and to pack light!
