Geographically, Argentina sits in the southernmost region of South America, so figuring out how to get there can feel like mental gymnastics. Have no fear - we've outlined everything you need to know below, and you've got our team on speed dial for any questions! We promise the journey is 1000% worth it!
ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE SCHEDULE
We've received tons of positive feedback on the flow of our Argentina trip, which is designed to start and end in relaxing places (with a dash of city life sprinkled in the middle). The flow of the trip is Mendoza > Buenos Aires > Patagonia, which means our Argentina trip starts and ends in different locations. Please keep this in mind as you make your travel plans.
TRIP START
City: Mendoza, Argentina
Arrival Airport: Mendoza International Airport (MDZ)
Meeting location & schedule: On your trip’s start date, we will meet at Entre Cielos Hotel in Mendoza. Your first activity is a welcome conversation with your Trip Leader at 6:30pm. If you are traveling from the USA or Canada, your international flight will depart the night before and arrive early in the morning. To get from the Mendoza airport to the hotel, you can take a taxi or we can organize a private transfer for you here. You will be able to check-in to your hotel room at 3pm. If you arrive at the hotel earlier, you can drop your bags at reception and relax by the pool/spa until your room is ready.
TRIP END
City: San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina
Departure Airport: San Carlos de Bariloche Airport (BRC)
Departure info & schedule: On the last day of the trip, we will transfer the group to the San Carlos de Bariloche Airport (BRC). When booking flights from Bariloche, we recommend a departure time between 10am - 3pm. Your Trip Leader will arrange two airport transfers to accommodate morning flights and afternoon flights.
TIPS FOR BOOKING YOUR FLIGHTS
TIP #1: BOOK YOUR FLIGHTS SEPARATELY
Although the trip starts in Mendoza and ends in Bariloche, most travelers find it much less expensive to book their round trip international ticket to/from Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport (EZE), and then book one-way domestic flights to/from the start/end locations. If you follow this approach, you will book three different flights:
Flight 1: A round-trip ticket from your home airport to Buenos Aires Ezeiza Airport (EZE)
Flight 2: A one-way ticket from Buenos Aires to Mendoza Airport (MDZ)
Flight 3: A one-way ticket from San Carlos de Bariloche Airport (BRC) to Buenos Aires
TIP #2: PAY ATTENTION TO THE BUENOS AIRES AIRPORT CODES
It’s important to know there are two airports in Buenos Aires:
EZE - mostly international flights, located about 1 hour outside the city
AEP - only domestic flights, located within the city center
Your international flights will always be in/out of EZE. However, you will have more domestic flight options from AEP. Upon arrival in Buenos Aires, the majority of our travelers change airports from EZE to AEP. To travel between airports, you can take a taxi (~ USD 35-50) or book a private airport transfer here (USD 100). The transfer takes about 1 hour, and we recommend giving yourself a total of 5 hours between your arrival time at EZE and your next flight’s departure time from AEP.
TIP #3: A DEEP BREATH GOES A LONG WAY WHEN BOOKING DOMESTIC FLIGHTS
The domestic airlines we recommend in Argentina are Aerolineas Argentinas or JetSmart. Sometimes these websites can be difficult to navigate. Give yourself time during this process and know it’s not you, it’s just a quirk of Argentina! If you would like to bypass the airline websites, we have had luck purchasing domestic flights through kiwi.com.
